The Buffet is an appliance that allows costumers to retrieve their requested food themself once the food is placed on it, instead of it having the food be delivered to them directly.
- When placing the appliance in the Preparation Phase, a customer outline indicates where costumers will walk towards to retrieve an food they are requesting.
- This outline is not obstructed by serving windows (half-walls) or doors, but it can be obstructed by walls or objects.
- Chairs from table does not obstructed this.
- There must be a pathway for the customer to reach the destination for this appliance to be active. This appliance does not need to be in the same room where the customer sits for it to work.
- Customers will start walking towards this appliance the moment a food that can satisfy their requested order is on this appliance (or a food that can partially satisfy their order, like a side to a main dish).
- The food placed on this appliance MUST be something the customer can accept when delivering their request in order for the customer to walk towards this appliance.
- If at any moment there is no food on the appliance that the customer wants, they will stop walking towards this appliance; either going back to their table or towards an another Buffet that has the food they are requesting.
- This does mean that if multiple customers approach the Buffet for the same food, and one of them grabs it first, the remaining others will start heading back to their tables (or towards another Buffet) until a new matching item is placed on a Buffet.
- Food that leave behind dirty items after the customer finishes eating, like dirty dishes, will still be generated after the customers are done eating.
- As messes generated based on the actual location of the customer while they are eating, and not the table where they are seated, messes can formed in locations away from tables.
¶ Tips
- This is very powerful and useful appliance for automation as you don't need to deliver items directly to tables.
- As customers can accept portion items before they are portions, like any Soup still in the pot before being portion or Taco still on the Taco Tray, it is very effective to simply placed the un-portioned item onto the buffet as multiple customers can take from the same buffet spot before needing to refill/replace the item on the buffet.
- It's better to keep this appliance close to where the actual customers sit to reduce the amount of time it takes for customers to retrieve their food.
