Mega Build and Automations
This section of the wiki only shows automations on BUFFET and the working sub-systems related to it. Teleporter and Grabber serving is not tolerated in this page.
Here is the run I've finished with all the available food cards from Coffee, Cakes and Sundaes. With all the available food choices, I managed to keep the demand low on slow process automations such as Apple Pies and Iced Coffee.

Cakes currently have 3 flavors - chocolate , lemon , and coffee - to choose from and 5 different ways to make cake - cookies, doughnuts, cupcakes , sponge cakes and brownies .
I will try to explain each system inside the mega-build as much as possible. The Heart Icon below represents Cookie Tray/Brownie Tray and the wok is Mixing Bowl

This is the automation I used when the demand of all cake flavors, or cake in general, is minimal. The good thing about this compare to other is that it is the fastest cooking cake recipe. And the bad thing is that flavor is added after baking which means you have to melt 4 chocolate to make 4 portions of chocolate cupcakes. In a restaurant where only cakes are served, this is not a good recommendation for automation, however, when the demand is low then this is a very good compact automation (low footprint) since a batch of cupcakes can make up to 4 different flavors of cupcakes which saves you from making three copies of cake automation system. The wok represents Mixing Bowl Provider.

(see All Dessert Mega Build which includes all cofee, sundae and cake automations)
For a very high demand for cakes, this is my preferred automation because of 6 portions and 5s cooking time in Microwave Oven. The flavor is added right after baking but does not require portioning before adding any which means 1 melted chocolate equates to 6 portions of sponge cakes. The only hard work you will do in this semi automation is to pick up cake tin, place in microwave, close the microwave, and place on the buffet; you can easily determine which flavor of cake you don't have since a melted chocolate, chopped lemon or coffee is on the buffet instead of the cake.

It is much more compact and cleaner compare to the other cake automation but you have to manually pick up and bake the cake.
Doughnut is the worst one, I don't recommend you use it now or until I find a better use for it. The automation is similar to cupcake but with added cooking station system which adds more time to cook.
Full Pie automation has two variations in which both have their specific purpose. The Safety Hob/appliances/SafetyHob variation is compact and safe but slow to finish one pie and the Danger Hob variation is fast and uses an infinite loop that prevents food from burning (just make sure to use this loop style if burning time is greater than 2s, or greater than 4s if you have
High Standards.

Out of the three dessert pies, Cherry Pie automation is the most compact and easy to recreate. The required items are not that hard to obtain as well. For full automation, you need;

This pie automation is slow and may be the bottleneck and the cause of your run. In some instance, I utilize gas override to speed up the pie curst and apple pie cooking time (❗ May cause burn if you have
High Standards). Also, conveyor mixer is usually use since the cooking time and mixing time for pie crust is relatively close. This also saves space when combined with cherry pie automation (see pie automation combined)

This could be the fastest pie to cook since it optional to cook pie crust. The cooking time can be reduced from 8s to 5s. However, the footprint of this automation is really big. I would sometimes recommend additional compactor bin to keep up with the demand to make pumpkin pie faster.

Having one working compactor bin (as shown in GIF above) is still viable. The cooking time of pumpkin pies fluctuates from 1.5s - 2.5s depending if the pie crust is cooked before the conveyor mixer chop the hollowed pumpkin.
Love and Hate situation right here. I love that this is easy to do in early game and can satisfy two customers at once but hate that it takes a lot of space to fully automate. In my case, I manually place to teleport it to service board since I can pass through back-to-back bar table then I don't have to push customers just to save a lot of space.
You can make it elongated like this and manually place the clean serving board to the board stack.![]() |
You can also make it wider if you don't have enough space above but more spaces on sides.![]() |
This is a variation of the first automation but with added teleporters for full automation.![]() |
I could say that coffee is the most popular dish to automate in this game, especially those mono-black coffee automations, where coffee is served through conveyors, grabbers or teleporters. With a single click of a button (ordering terminal), customer's order is satisfied. It is obvious that the downside of this is that every day would take a very long time to finish since food cards (-15% expected customers) were not picked. This is also my favorite one to automate when I started playing this game, the days when buffet is not yet implemented.
(insert GIF here - simple coffee automation)
With the addition of buffet "table" in patch 1.4, I started creating mega build with all the food cards, if available on the main. And to my surprise, I had about less than 65 customers in overtime 36 on a coffee run (which has +30% initial expected customer).
As far I know, coffee has another 4 card varieties - three of which uses black coffee as base and the other one is tea.
Black Coffee. Very simple... Just need two coffee machines, 1 grabber and smart grabber with assigned black coffee.
Oh wait, you can use rotating grabber to give itself a gift - a coffee cup (it's me on my birthday) - so you only need 1 coffee machine but added at least 1 more grabber.
You also realized that you can do coffee-machine-exchange gift to double the production while reducing the space taken up.
This further explains the mistake everyone almost get, the smart grabber is not picking up items from the grabber if the item is being delivered to another location. Looking back at the image, once the right side of the coffee is full, then that's the time when the left side is getting the brewed coffee (sometimes)
While playing watching coffee system do it's work, you noticed that one side is faster than the other. You rotate the coffee carousel, and now it is fixed - Now you've learned about a piece of grabber priority.
To make good use of grabber priority, I recommend doing it sideways like this because the east-most grabber will grab the item first, then north, then south, and finally the west (ENSW)
The rate of ice production in ice dispenser is at 1 ice every 10s. This coffee variation is the bottleneck if you're doing all coffee run. To fix this problem, adding more Ice Dispenser and/or adding more coffee and dessert choices is recommended.
NOTE: The conveyor below represents the INPUT (black coffee) you may use grabber or rotating grabber, or smart grabber if the appliances above it is a coffee machine.

The figure above shows two ways of automating iced coffee. If the input grabber is pointing on the ice dispenser then combiner is used and the output smart grabber (assign iced coffee) is grabbing item on the ice dispenser. As unpopular as it is, portioner is only used if you found a way to compact your automations in some way that the combiner cannot. Both automation variation is good in their own respective fields, as for me, I usually go for combiners since it is more accessible to me due to its demand in other automation and use portioner if I run out of combiners.
Here is the full iced coffee automation. NOTES: Black Coffee is assigned to the left-most grabbers, and iced coffee on the right most.

And a variation to also serve black coffee.

The only way to automate this is to use portioner connected to the milk steamer. Most of the automation looks like the figure below.
NOTE: The conveyor below represents the INPUT (black coffee) you may use grabber or rotating grabber, or smart grabber if the appliances above it is a coffee machine.

The grabber beneath the portioner is any grabber, but you can assign latte to smart grabber to be safe. Never in all my run that I have to use smart grabber in latte automation.
Full automation for latte looks like this: It is not recommended to use "exchange-gift-coffee-machine" because the milk provider will be off-setted by 1 column/row. You can move it if you combine this latte automation to other coffee variants automation.

You can also put another grabber and buffet below the milk steamer so you have automated milk once you get
Extra Milk card.

One of the worst starter to pick because it's too long to cook (about 20s on starter hob or 10s in oven), another plates to worry about (serving board, at least cleaning is not required), takes a lot of space when fully automating. On a non plated main runs, the amount of additional grabbers added to automation is equal to the amount of tables (amount of group per restaurant). On a plated main runs, only a smart grabber is needed plus teleporter (optional).
If this is the only starter, it is not recommended to use safety hob to cook the bread. If you think about it, you will only add two more footprints if you use danger hob for 2x
. Figures below shows the different ways to automate bread as starter.
| Bread as Starter Automation | ||
|---|---|---|
| The safety hob finally finished cooking the first bread of the day at 26.66s. To compensate this slow start, a freezer is added to the system to have at max 5 starting bread boards. | The this automation uses a danger hob loop. Do not worry about the "misorientation" of that rotationg grabber at the top right of freezer because it uses grabber priority to not start clogging. The smart grabber ith assigned bread is not necessary but I used it just to have consistency with all the automations that uses danger hob loop. | This third one uses compactor bin to discard extra bread instead of creating a loop. However, make sure you know the grabber priority East, North, South, West (ENSW) because you will accidentally throw away bread that greatly need. Also note that by the time a danger hob finishes cooking a bread, then the compactor bin also finishes discarding (same with Turkey and Nut Roast). |

Autobussing can be done by directly using grabbers to pick up serving boards from the table onto the serving board provider or using teleporter for a longer range transportation.
